Our Correspondence Published in Nature

In October 2024, a perspective article was published in Nature (https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-024-07721-5). The article discussed how cohort studies and biobanks have increasingly focused on expanding their scale. However, even with larger sample sizes and more variables, residual confounding remains an issue, making it difficult to overcome complex diseases under the current approach. To address this, the article proposed that cohorts with family-based information are essential. The article has attracted significant attention as a piece that could shape the future direction of biobank design, but it only mentioned the importance of including up to two generations.
Then, we informed the lead author, Dr. Neil Davies that cohorts with three or more generations already exist and discussed submitting a Correspondence to Nature. He encouraged us to proceed.
Following this exchange, we submitted a correspondence to Nature, which has now been published (https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-025-02154-0).
